Home page - Photography - Art Gallery Photographer - Ansel Adams (February 1902-April 1984) Ansel Adams was born in San Francisco February 20th 1902. Few American photographers have reached a wider audience. His precise photographic style reveals a deep respect for the pristine grandeur of the American West landscape. Adams' passion for the Sierra also made him a pioneer for wilderness conservation for much of his life. In 1980 he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Carter and in 1981 he became an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts with a degree from Harvard University.
