Home Page > Writing and publishing > Article Library

A book or e-book review is essentially a statement of opinion about a piece of writing supported by specific reasons for that opinion. It's purpose is to let the reader know it is considered worthwhile to read the book under discussion.

Some questions book reviewers will generally themselves ask as they read include:

  • Does the book have a logical topic flow? Is it well organized or just a jumbled mix of ideas?

  • Does the title accurately portray the contents being written about?

  • Is the writing style light and conversational or heavy with formal intended to impress?

  • Is the author qualified to write about the subject matter either through experience, working knowledge, or research?

  • Is it written for the inexperienced person or for professionals? Who is the intended audience for the book?

  • Does it have a clear theme running through to the overall book?

  • Does it have a clean and attractive layout?

  • Is the author convincing? Is the information accurate and derived from reliable sources and unbiased?

  • Is the book easy to navigate or confusing?

Getting your Book Reviewed

Not all reviewers will view non-fiction books on the Internet so check with each site and read their submission criteria carefully.

Most will require some, or all of the following information when you submit your book for review.

  • Name of author

  • Authors email address

  • Authors URL

  • Title of book

  • The category, genre and/or subject

  • E-book or print book

  • The Publisher's URL

  • Publishing date

  • Number of pages

  • ISBN number

  • Release date

  • The cost

  • Where readers can purchase the book

  • If the author is available for interview or if an excerpt is available.

  • Some reviewers will request if there is a small graphic of the cover art.

Have you obtained a ISBN number for your book?

An ISBN is an "international Standard Book Number". It is issued to electronic publications and is a sign of professionalism. If you are a publisher and or if you intend to publish regularly you may apply for one.
